Find International Slow Pitch Softball Tournaments

Due to popular request, SPN has just launched an international slow pitch softball tournament page.  I have gotten repeated requests for this page over the last year from our armed forces serving overseas, as well as from pockets of softball fans from around the world.  Thank you to everyone who requested this feature, particularly Manuel  from International Slow Pitch Softball .

2013 updates are coming soon!

Big updates are coming to make it even easier to find and post slow pitch softball tournaments online!  We are integrating with Google Calendar which simplifies everything!  No more login required any longer to post a tournament!  It’s still 100% free, just more powerful and easier to use.

We are about 1/3 of the way done with the updates.  The Western part of the country (and Wisconsin, & Georgia by request) are done so post away.  If you don’t see your state’s calendar back online yet please be patient or drop us a line and we will make sure we get your state updated next.

Spiderz Lite Batting Gloves

I got my new 2012 Spiderz Lite Batting Gloves in today.  I had a pair of last years that lasted through 28 league games, 32 tournaments, 4 scrimmages, and probably a thousand swings during various batting practice sessions.  Not only were they durable as heck, but they were comfortable too.

Easily the best pair of batting gloves I have ever worn.  If you are in the market for a new set of batting gloves, give Spiderz Batting Gloves a try.

Video of the Week: Malach’s Slow Pitch Softball Pitching Primer

While there are scores of videos to be found online that feature tips on hitting a slow pitch softball, there seems to be few videos on how to pitch a slow pitch softball.  That’s a shame.  Questions on how to pitch can be found on softball forums all over the internet.  It’s a commonly asked question.

Malach’s Slow Pitch Softball Pitching Primer is one of the original pitching videos found on YouTube.  While he demonstrates how to throw a variety of pitches (with limited success), it’s Malach the Merciless’s philosophy about pitching that I want to mention. [starts talking about it at :50]

The goal of [pitching] slow pitch softball is not to strike out your opponent, but to induce them into outs using arc, spin, location, and movement of your pitches.

The arc is the most important.

I’ve been pitching a long time (20+ years), and Malach’s is dead on with that statement above.  You’re not going to strike out batters swinging because your pitches are so awesome.  Batters strike out because they miss.  Induce them into outs!

Slow Pitch Softball Swing Mechanics: Line Drive Swing vs a Home Run Swing

This is the first video I have found that shows a line drive swing side by side with a home run swing.

Check out the difference in hand position and bat head position about 26 seconds in.   Notice the line drive swing approaches the ball on a flat plane, and typically will hit the ball near it’s center mass.  The HR swing, because the hands and bat head are higher, comes down in a “chopping” motion and typically will hit the ball on it’s lower half.  Both follow throughs are nearly identical.

The line drive swing and the HR swing look like they both connect with the about the same power & force.  Because of it’s downward swing plane, the HR swing can create massive backspin on the ball.  The backspin will create lift, and that will carry the ball further.

Video of the Week – It’s all in the hips

Softball Hitting : How Rotational Power is Generated by the Hips

Unlike baseball where a significant amount of power is generated when you hit a pitch that is coming in at a high speed, in slow pitch softball you don’t have that. The speed of the ball is a non factor.  All of your power come from your bat speed… and bat speed is generated by the hips. Mastering rotational power is the key to consistently hit for power in slow pitch softball. This clip offers up an excellent explanation and breakdown into a slow pitch softball swing.

Luck Favors the Bold

I think I’m pretty good at SEO. (That is Search Engine Optimization for all of you non-geeks out there.)  Over the last year and a half I’ve worked with some of the best people at BizzyWeb and have refined my techniques and understanding of search engines and page rankings.

Optimizing a site is 1 part research, 1 part technical, and 1 part social.  It’s an art to pull it all together and organically grow your search engine rankings.

Sure, there are services out there that promise a first page listing with Google or Bing, but many of them “game the system“. When Google changes their search algorithm used to rank sites, the sites that gamed the system tend to drop in page rankings like a rock.

I’m not talking about that kind of SEO.  I’m talking about using industry best practices, good SEO tools for research, and leveraging the power of social media to get the word out.  BizzyWeb has been able, on average to double a websites traffic in just a few months. After Googles last algorithm change, the sites we worked on tended to jump up in traffic and search engine rankings because we don’t game the system and follow industry best practices.

I’m taking all that I have learned about SEO and applying it to the Slow Pitch Nation and our network of sites like Wisconsin.SlowPitchNation.com.  I’m taking a very targeted niche market, slow pitch softball tournaments, and I am to be the major player this narrow niche.

As of 2/6/2012 this network of sites didn’t exist to Google or Bing. We submitted our sites to the search engines this morning, and it will be a few days before they index the sites and we start to appear in search results.

Why am I telling you all of this?

Luck favors the bold.  And I’m making a bold prediction.  By mid July of 2012, we will dominate the first page of search engine results for the following keywords:

Some may think I’m crazy or insane for publicly declaring that I am going to pull this off.  BAH! I say.

Luck favors the bold! Is this bold enough for you?
